At day 8 of our 10 days of antibiotics...Dan is feeling extremely depleted. Please pray for strength and rest. His appetite is random throughout the day and because we're at home I can usually get him what he wants which is such a blessing! He definitely needs food and water right now in order to heal well.

Tuesday June 23rd
Dear servants of the MOST HIGH GOD,
I got some answers to our prayers yesterday! His blood test results showed that we have been on the correct antibiotic...now just four more days to go! yeah God!
I received some great comfort about Dan's continuity of care from our awesome nurse. They have been checking in with each other throughout the weekends! They all really care about Dan.
The nausea/crawling out of the skin piece is being controlled. It's just through a very strange way of doing it in our book. But relieving suffering is relieving suffering, right? The nurse has assured me that there isn't a downside to what we're doing at this time. (sorry if that was confusing)

Monday, June 22nd
I just realized sometime last night why I feel so helpless to help Dan. When his Dr. called on Wed, he said that we had a choice to make, treat him at home or at the hospital. Well, we chose home. And all in all I still feel that that was the correct choice. BUT, in the hospital, there is regular nursing and a button to push if you need extra nursing. I'm at home and I can call the on-call nursing but it does take more time and most times it's a different person during the on-call times. Please pray for great continuity of Dan's medical care during this new way of doing his care solely at home as we treat his gram negative blood infection.
And pray that I will be reminded to PRAY when I need help. God is my fortress and my shield, I will trust in Him.
We still need a solution for balancing of the nausea,crawling out of his skin and restless legs. Right now it's not quite right.

I thought this day would be a bit easier because last night was fever-free and nausea-free. Wow! It wasn't too bad though, the prayers of the righteous we're answered in many ways.

Thursday, June 18th
Dear ones, last night was mostly restful. Dan also got some rest. We are watching his temp. now and it's not responding to the tylenol. And he ate a few bites and was a bit nauseous this morn. BUT
Yesterday was terrible so I feel encouraged. Yesterday was vomitting, high fever, and hardly drinking and not eating. We also received the news that he has a gram negative blood culture...the Dr. said it was a serious blood infection. So I'm glad that we already had started the antibiotic. More of those are on the way
I love blessings for today...fever lower, family helping, Dan resting
I'm looking forward to hope for tomorrow...hope you do the same

The fevers have continued. Last night they went up so high that it caused convulsing and nausea. We called our nurse and then she directed us to call 911. Then Dan was taken to the hospital and they got his fever to come down. It was 103. His blood work revealed that his white blood count was extremely low, lower than it has ever been. He will be having further tests done but the Dr. started him on an antibiotic. Here's the good news. At least we're home now. And our confidence is in Christ! I will be updating frequently

I absolutely love looking into Dan's eyes. That said, I especially love looking at them even more now that they really do show so much of God's handiwork, not only on creativity but also in awesome healing power!!!

His eyes continue to be great. His body is really needing prayer. Sunday morning began a fever and it continues to now, monday night. I really feel bad for him...the chills and tender skin...ick! Please pray for healing and protection.

The Miracle continues
We are still standing in awe of this miracle -- today my eye is perfectly fine .. no blurred vision .. there was not a drop of blood when the tumor was lifted off yesterday .. no pain .. today there is not a scratch .. not a hint of blurred vision. Carol noted what an amazing thing it is that if she ever was tempted to believe that God no longer does miacles .. all she has to do is look into my eyes!!! We can't thank you enough for your prayers!
Miracle on June 2nd
When Carol first noticed this white growth on my eye she tried to get it out with the usual side of a tissue and her finger, but it did not move. At various times before the first Dr.’s visit, I tried to get it off using a cotton tab. Our hospice nurse tried to remove the growth but with no success. Our first Dr. appointment was with a Dr. Yu of the practice. During the course of his examination, Dr. Yu tried to get is off as well. After failure, that is when we scheduled a time for surgical removal and received all the information that we have been communicating to you over these last few days. I began to detect what I thought were blood vessels beginning to develop to the white tumor.
But my heart was simply not settled about the surgery and I wanted to know just a bit more about the procedure before we went through with it and I really wanted to have another diagnosis, a second opinion from another Dr. in the practice that we heard good things about. We were adamant about it as we received a fair amount of resistance from the scheduler’s at the practice. But there just happened to be an opening two days before The surgery date.’
Frankly, the minute Dr. Sutphin came into the room you could tell he was a professional and there was a different air about the meeting as he went about doing his own examination. After answering our questions, he began to do his own examination and letting us know what he was doing with each new test. (which is one thing I really appreciate in a Dr.)
After numbing my eyeball he set about examining the growth and within a minute. He simply lifted it off the surface of the eye. And showed it to us. We couldn’t help but say things like ‘Praise the Lord’ ‘Amazing,’ ‘Unbelievable.’ The final outcome is that I have a slight more of this material on the eye .. so I am to use these drops 4 to 8 times a day to see if that will simply take care of it and to go back for a visit in one month. If there is any more growth, then they may do a microscopic removal of everything which will entail a simple procedure at the office. But the Dr. is convinced it has nothing whatsoever to do with my other cancerous material and is simply a problem of dry eye.
I have come to the conclusion that in the one week time during our attempts and the first Dr.’s examination and attempt to remove the growth AND the second Dr.’S appointment .. the Lord used ALL your prayers to simply detach that growth from any potential blood vessels or settlement into the surrounding tissue. In other words .. a miracle! HE LIFTED THAT TUMOR OFF THE SURFACE OF MY EYE WITH NO WORRISOME SIDE AFFECTS. It simply lifted right off. The hundred’s .. maybe thousands of prayers were answered by a merciful, loving and caring God. I’m convinced of it and will praise the Lord accordingly .. I am certainly NO apostle Paul, but having things being lifted off your eyes by God and for the purposes of Jesus Christ does have some precedents.
Acts 19: 17-19 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he regained his sight, and he got up and was baptized; and he took food and was strengthened.
Matt20:32-34 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" They said to Him, "Lord, we want our eyes to be opened." Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.
Psalm 20: I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
2My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
3He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who keeps you will not slumber.

Sun. May 31st Update
We still have plans for surgery at 2:00 this Thursday to remove the tumor. We do have an appointment with another neuroopthomologist in the same practice this Tuesday in order to get more information and advice. We don't anticipate things to change as of today but you never know 100 percent -- however I would like to ask you, our Friends and ministry partners to take a couple minutes this Thursday during your lunch to lift up a quick prayer that all would run smoothly during the surgery, for a quick recovery and that the biopsy report would come back stating the tumor is benign with no malignancy. We appreciate every one of you. Thanks!!

Monday May 19th Update
As of today - we have a surgery date of Thursday June 4th at 2:00 pm. It will be preformed by a specialist named Dr. Yu at the nueroopthomoligist clinic on State Line Rd. We have chosen the outpatient procedure as we have our hospice nurse who comes twice a week. She will monitor the eye as the Dr. said he would remove the growth and a bit of healthy tissue surrounding the cancer as he wants to make sure he gets all of the cancer. I will have a couple stitches and the usual discomfort of anyone who has an operation on the eye. Blurred vision and the possibility of infection. He will then send the cancer off to have it investigated -- the biggest concern is if this is a malignant growth or not .. and then if the entire eyeball would have to be removed.
We are comfortable with this but we are have our Oncologist review all of this and if he knows of a better surgeon and.or if we can get a sooner surgery date .. things might change.
You can also pray for me .. as I am pushing myself to become more mobile .. it also has increased the possiblity of accidents. I have taken a couple of nasty falls the last couple days. The Lord has kept me from any serious injuries but I am scheduled to get a hip xray tomorrow.
Thanks for your prayers .. my personal feelings during this time are rather numb .. however the Holy Spirit is very active .. testifying to my spirit that I am a child of God. Rom 8:16. This quiet but consistent witness deep inside me is a source of great confort, reassureance and stregnth. It's a constant assurance of His love for me (why me I'll never know) .. it will be with me through every circumstance .. now and forever. How truly amazing.

Unfortunately, we received some surprising and disappointing news from are appointment with the neuroopthamologist. The growth on my right eye is cancer. He recommended immediate surgical removal of the growth .. and then to run tests to see if it is of malignant nature. If so, then there are a number of options I need to do some chemo maybe by drops or by usual means. It could also mean that they will need to take out the entire eyeball to save it from spreading to other parts of my body. (much like breast cancer often leads to the removal of the entire breast)
The surgery needed to take the nodule out can be done on an outpatient basis. Where they will leave a few stitches and it will be sore for a week or so with blurred vision.
We are kinda numb right now. My biggest concern is any loss of my vision .. that it wouldn't happen at all. We will keep you updated as we know things like dates of surgery or any other information.

I really need people to join in praying us through these next 10 days. Right now there will be many extra pulls on our time...really good pulls...but a ton of them.
Pray that we'll pick the best ones if we must choose.
Pray that we'll be able to show up for our kids in ways that really touch them.
Pray that we'll be available to hear God's leading and minister for HIM.
Things going on include...teaching seminars, jazz concert, sports awards, a wedding, a sports potluck, baseball game, end of school year celebrations...and probably a few other things that I just can't think of.
I'm sowing in prayer, please join me. Thanks!!!

Saturday: Dan had muddy shoes. I don't quite know how to express thoroughly how AWESOME it was to hear Dan say, "I can't wear those upstairs, they're muddy!" Are you tracking with me yet!?
Dan stood outside and trimmed the rose bushes. Then he went to the back of our yard and worked at clearing the raised bed that he uses for planting vegetables. He got a little muddy...he walked around...he did stuff he loves...the weather was so pretty...and his body cooperated!
I got to clean mud off shoes and loved it! God gets all the credit.

Today was a tough uphill climb at the beginning...then we hit a nice flat place...the nice flat place lasted almost all day...Yeah!!!...now it's going down again. I don't know what kind of mixing of metaphors that is but I think you get it.

Don't you love it when obstacles fall away...today, Dan and I were able to see Blake play baseball. We were allowed to drive right up in our car and watch from the third base line. Blake was definitely showing his stuff, that guy sure can play ball...and we saw it!
That gut was so well behaved up until 6pm...now, we sleep and so do you.

Today, based on the x-rays from yesterday, we went to the hospital for a procedure. We were both nervous about it...I know that I shouldn't be...but right now Dan and I would prefer to handle as much as we can at home. We've done the "hospital thing" quite a bit.
Well everything went very well!!!... and he is a bit worn out but at home in his own bed! God really gave us a great Doctor and nurse today! Thanks for your continued following of us on this journey.

Dan needs your prayers tonight...the regime that the gut Dr. laid out was not helpful... so this afternoon his nurse told Dan what the next step would be. He has to take some more very nauseating medicine tonight. If this isn't successful he must have a special x-ray...this x-ray could see if there is a blockage inside...we're hoping that what we do tonight works and is easier than we anticipate.

I really am glad that today is a new day...after a night's sleep, some prayer time, and a good break-fast...it's easier to have renewed hope. I hope that today is tons better than yesterday. It's still a bit too early to tell. His gut was beginning to show signs of being tough and pain in his back has begun to gnaw. Thanks for keeping up with us.
Forty-six years ago someone named Daniel Anthony LaGue was born...And, I'm SOOO glad that he was!

Also on Wednesday, Dan saw a Gastroenterologist about all his gut problems. This gentleman was very kind and really tried to give us some new ideas...the long and the short of it is that we are in the midst of trying things out. So far, the nausea has been ever-present. This is tough. But perhaps we'll get to a point of relief SOON!

Tomorrow is Wednesday and Dan has some great plans...He is going to teach a class in the evening on God's sovereignty. Okay, so now please pray for the following: the pain in his back and kidney's to abate, no more nausea, and for adequate rest over these next 24 hours. Hope you had a fun and blessed Easter weekend! We did!

Okay, so now please pray for the following: the pain in his back and kidney's to abate, no more nausea, and for adequate rest over these next 24 hours. Hope you had a fun and blessed Easter weekend! Saturday, April 11th
Last night was tough but Dan did get some rest. I just want you to know that when you respond to our requests in prayer ... God really does answer. Dan is still able to remain busy despite all these new symptoms. Here are some examples ... this last week he was able to revise 25 of his radio devotionals for the new CCC site … he recruited 4 new German speaking Online Missionaries .. began a new Hungarian Community of Online Missionaries with two Hungarian friends .. personally answered 30 requests from our ministry websites … most of these were from seekers who had a lot of questions about the Christian faith .. And he is currently preparing to teach this Wed. night on God’s sovereignty.
All of this amazes me at what God can do. Wow!! We are so thankful for the strength your prayers give to us … He really has Risen from the dead and I hope all of you have a glorious Easter.

Whew! At the sound of the tone the time will be...11:50pm! Ding! For those awake now, I say, "go to sleep" Dan's shoulder pain is spreading even now. We just tried some more medicine for pain control and he seems to be resting. That's one thing he definitely needs. Keep praying for the fever to disappear.
Can't help but say Praise to God that while we were yet sinners, He died for us!!!

Dan is really tired today and he has such horrible pain in his shoulder that it hurts every time he breathes.???? Yuck! And this man has a very high pain tolerance. Today the nurse comes to see him, pray for insight for her.
On the 'good news' front, Dan's fever is currently responding to the fever reduction meds. Don't ya' just love a bit of good news!!!

Dear friends,
Dan's fever is always there at this time. He's weak and miserable. Just this morning we began the first day of a 5 day round of IV antibiotics. Join me in praying that it ONLY goes after the harmful bacteria and NOT the good stuff that we all need in our bodies. As you know, his gut issues are at risk for worsening with antibiotics...pray that it won't happen.
All in all I'm grateful for our medical team's swift response to Dan's needs at this time and I'm hopeful that we're doing the right thing.

Dear ones who pray...we didn't make it to our oncologist on Tuesday. Dan didn't feel good at all. As it stands now we have an appt. with him on Mon. the 6th and an appt. with a gastroenterologist on the 7th. Pray that Dan would be able to make both of these. And for some relief for his gut...his Dr. had a new idea that we hope will help him tomorrow. Lately these days have been tough...gut pain, nausea and back and neck pain. Pray that these will all subside, starting tomorrow. Thanks!
