Met with my neurosurgeon. The report from the spinal tap indicated that my spinal pressure is on the high side of normal, high protein levels and 'inflammatic' tissue throughout the specimen. Basically, it indicates some kind of infection but he said that it could be just result of the cancer - not necessarily a new infection. He also said that my other symptoms were so 'diffuse' and 'non-specific' that he couldn't pinpoint a particular nerve root or place in the spine that is the cause of these new symptoms. Basically, he doesn't know why these things are happening and it probably is just the progression of the detrimental effects of the cancer. I have put off any other surgeries until I can get this under control.
Where does that leave me? Treat the symptoms. I go in for an epidural on Monday at 9:45am when my pain physician will inject some numbing medication and steroids for inflammation in the hopes that this will help.
You can join me in praying for accuracy, no subsequent infection, and for it to be effective!! As always, we so appreciate your prayers and concern. I'll let you know on Tuesday how things went and what our next steps will be!
